Take a can of sweetened condensed milk (Carnation, Magnolia, whatever) and put it in a deep heavy saucepan, with water to cover the top. Don't cover the pot, and simmer the can in the water for about three and a half hours, making sure you add water now and then to keep the can covered. Let it cool down, open the can and Presto ! Dulce de Leche
